Carbide Inserts For Carbon & Alloy Steels
- R-100 For finishing to semi-finishing at high speeds(P05-20). Equivalent to Sandvik’s GC4015 & 4215 and Kennametal’s KC910, 9010 & 9110. Extremely wear resistant. Thick CVD coating.
- R-200 Our best overall steel grade(P10-40). Balances wear and shock resistance. Equivalent to Sandvik’s GC4225 & Kennametal’s KC9025, 9125, 9225, & KC9040. Thick CVD coating.
- R-202 Tougher and more shock resistant than our R-200 but not quite as wear resistant(P25-40). Equivalent to Sandvik’s GC4035 & 4235 and Kennametal’s KC850, 8050, 9045, 9240. Thick CVD coating.
Benefits of Romay Whisker Ceramic
Romay Corp is introducing Whisker Ceramic Inserts for machining ‘exotic’ alloys such as Inconel 718.
Ceramic cutting tools are a well established technology for use on heat resistant alloys. Romay Ceramic Inserts can cut up to 10x faster than Carbide Inserts.
To further develop this outstanding machining technology, Romay Corp has launched its CC-600 grade of Whisker Ceramic. Pure fine grain alumina is re-enforced by whiskers of silicon carbide fibers. The fibers add tensile strength and fracture toughness to the alumina substrate even at elevated temperatures.
The CC-600 works differently than conventional tooling. An Inconel material of 35 HRC can be machined at speeds of 1,600 SFPM(500m/min) while a material of 60 HRC could be machined at 300 SFPM(100m/min). The elevated cutting speeds generate high temperatures that plasticize the chip area. This pushes the workpiece material off in a series of shear plane chips.
These reductions in cycle time provide significant part production savings, while the high metal removal rates give customers an edge in our difficult global marketplace.

Romay Corporation Ceramic Insert News
For over 35 years Romay Corp has been a trusted source for Ceramic and Silicon Nitride insert cutting tools. During that time, we have been on the forefront of productivity and change in production machining.
Silicon Nitride has grown to become the preferred cutting tool material for high production machining of irons. Romay has six different grades of Silicon Nitride, dimpled inserts, and stocks a wide variety of sizes and styles to meet the varying needs of a complex industrial market.
Ceramic, first developed in the 50’s, continues to offer wear resistance and surface finishes that rival Diamond Tools for light machining of all different kinds of steel. Romay’s CC-30 grade is our 4th generation ceramic, specially formulated for machining materials above Rc58.
At Romay Corp, we have steadily built a brand by offering these Advanced Cutting Tool Materials to our customers at prices well below our competition.
In the past 3 years, we have added several exciting new products! These new offerings are in keeping with our focus on Advanced Cutting Tool Tech. Our patented SC Coating is pushing the boundaries of where Tool Coatings can be used. Romay’s Whisker Ceramic is broadening the scope of what ceramic tools can do, especially in Aerospace metals. Most recently, Romay’s first ever Coated Carbide Insert line is receiving high praise from our distributors.
This new blog will be about keeping you on the cutting edge of Advanced Tool Materials. Check back regularly for updates on our SC Coating, Carbide Inserts, Whisker Ceramic, Silicon Nitride, and Alumina Oxide, as well as Romay’s take on industry news and events.
It’s going to be a great year.
